In this episode Christina Yang is faced with deciding if she should give blood to a Jehovah's witness patient in order to save their life. The patient comes into the hospital with severe injuries and loses a lot of blood, as soon as the doctors were putting the needle into his arm they realize he is wearing a Jehovah’s witness bracelet and can not continue. Yang then confronts the parents and makes them aware that their son will die is not given blood, but the parents believe that his body will make blood to heal him. Viewers see the doctors struggle with respecting the patients wishes but struggle with their medical beliefs as well, as their job is to save this persons life especially when they think it would be successful. In the end, the patient dies. In this episode it was not Rhimes’ goal to inform viewers of Jehovah’s Witness beliefs but to share with viewers one aspect of what doctors can face with decision based on medical and religions (Sagy). Yang knew she would save this man's life, but because of religious beliefs she had to respect the patients wishes.
