Jackson Avery is introduced to us as a non-religious person. Throughout the show he marries a devoted Christian women, who he does support but does not believe the same. Jackson and April struggle with religious views when their son, Samuel. But Jackson’s beliefs stay the same even after Samuel’s death, unlike April. Eventually, Jackson and April do divorce and April is in a terrible accident. Her life is ending and Jackson struggles with finding hope for her. In the episode, we see Jackson sitting by her dying body and praying to God. Miraculously, she does wake up. It was then, that Jackson found a new view on spiritual beliefs. He ends up running away to spend some time in the woods to “figure himself out”. Throughout the seasons after his discovering of this new view in life, he is happier, more hopeful and open-minded with other’s religious views. (Wilder)
